Window Tint Frequently Asked Quesitons
What Is Window Tint?
Window tint is a polyester film that is generally made up of PET, Polyethylene Terephthalate, and delivers different benefits and features depending on the type of film you choose. There are a variety of different window tint films available ranging from dyed, metalized, carbon & ceramic films. All offering different levels of UV protection, privacy levels, and price points.
How Is Window Tint Installed?
The preparation needed to install your tint is probably one of the most important factors. Why? Windows need to be thoroughly cleaned and rid of all dirt and small particles before the initial application. The film is then cut to fit your glass with a solution being sprayed on the film to activate the adhesive so that it adheres to your window flawlessly.
How Long Does Window Tint Installation Take?
It depends on the type of vehicle you have and your individual circumstances. Do you need older tint removal done first, etc.? In most cases, a professional window tint application takes between 1-3 hours.
How Long Do I Have To Wait To Roll My Windows Down After The Tint Application?
Windows need to be kept rolled up for at least 3 days to prevent any damage to your new tint. During this time frame, the adhesive is still curing and it is very easy to lift an edge of the tint or have small dirt particles or air bubbles find their way under the surface. If this should happen your tint will begin to lift.
How Long Should I Wait To Clean My Windows & What Should I Clean Them With?
It is best to wait about a week before cleaning your windows. Little beads of moisture can reach the edges of the tint and get sucked inside causing unsightly air bubbles. Should tint begin to lift in the first 2-4 days it will eventually start to peel off due to lack of time to cure properly. Windows should be cleaned with non-abrasive, soft clothes and AMMONIA FREE cleaner. Soap & water or vinegar & water work very well as cleaning agents for window tint.
How Is Window Tint’s darkness measured?
Window tint is measured in terms of VLT or Visible Light Transmission, which is the measurement of the amount of light that can pass through your tint. The lower the number the darker the tint. Different states have different regulations when it comes to the legal VLT level for tint. The state of Arizona requires that the front & side windows have a VLT of at least 33% and even suggest 35% to be on the safe side.
What Are Some Of The Benefits Of Tinted Windows?
Window tint is a great cosmetic enhancement for your vehicle and can add a lot of class & sophistication. It also comes with a variety of other benefits that include, reduced glare while driving, protects against UV rays/sun damage, helps block solar heat keeping interior cooler, projects against shattered glass in the invent of an accident, or attempted theft, increases your privacy and security.
Are There Different Kinds Of Window Tint To Choose From?
There are a variety of window tint materials to choose from depending on your budget and what it is you are looking to do when tinting your windows. Window tint films available on the market include mirrored/reflective, dyed, carbon, and ceramic.
